We had our first trip to the cabin at Peter Stride’s Lake since Nicholas was born.
It was a beautiful week and we had lots of fun. The weather was great and Nicholas had his first ride on a quad and he finally got his feet dirty. We also found out that he loves to watch the Canadian flag flying in the breeze.
While there we all had a Christmas in July party for Ivan and K, who were in Alberta working this past winter and missed Christmas at home. There were gifts for the kids, and lots of food and drinks for everyone.
Pictures of our trip can be found in the Gallery.

Conne River Powwow 2006 has come and gone. We had a beautiful weekend with sun and hot breezy days. No flies around to bother the people and the breeze kept everyone from melting away to nothing.
As usual the food was great and there were many different people who came by to check out the sights and sounds. We spent Thursday evening, Friday afternoon, Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon at the Powwow grounds and we enjoyed it all.
Pictures of this years Powwow can be found in my www.conneriver.com gallery.
Enjoy!

Today is my first day at work with a summer student. I’d like to welcome John Nick to my office and I hope you can learn something from me.

I put some more pictures in the gallery on Saturday night. They can be found here.
We have also found out just how expensive it can be to have a kid. Sometimes you feel that you need more space and we decided that we did need more space.
Nicholas was baptised on Sunday. He was a wonderful little boy. Not a peep out of him. He slept through it all except when the water hit his forehead… he jumped, but he never started crying at all. His little tux fitted him nicely and he had most of his cousins and aunts and uncles visit him afterwards for a piece of cake. Some pictures from that can be found here.
Enjoy!

It’s been an interesting time these past weeks. Nicholas is growing like a weed. We already have a box of clothes started with clothes that are too small for him. He’s spent the last two nights in his own room in his own crib, and we have introduced the bottle to him with both breast milk and formula.
Nicholas usually feeds at 9 pm and hits the sack by 10 to 10:30. From there we don’t usually hear from him until around 3 am, but this morning it was 4:15. After he fed, crapped and went back to sleep he woke again around 7 am. Same drill but this time we put him in bed with us (we do this pretty much every morning!) I had the day off work so Siobhan left us in bed and We finally woke again a little after 10! What a sleep!
My friend (and Nicholas’ future Godfather) Cory left this morning at 6:30 in my truck. He headed into St. John’s to pick up a motorcycle for himself. He bought a 1996 Kawasaki Ninja ZX7R. I took it for a couple rides this evening (about 20 kms worth, Cory had only gone 3 kms at that point) and I can’t wait until I find myself a bike.
As I mentioned above about Cory being the future Godfather, I just want to let everyone know that Nicholas’ Baptism is on June 18th, Father’s Day! Cory Foster is the Godfather, and Dana Keeping is the Godmother. Hopefully Nicholas will approve of these choices! 🙂
I must run now, got to try and get some sleep. I’m trying to build a fence and Cory brought home a screen house for me today so now I should be able ot get some work done without the flies trying to carry me away!

Hey all, it’s been too weeks of waking up throughout the night, changing dirty diapers and then going to work in the morning. It’s a tough job but we love to do it!
Nicholas is growing like a weed. Almost two weeks ago he was 9 pounds and 13 ounces (7 11 when born) and we figure he’s going to be around 11 pounds by the weighing this Wednesday. We already have a box of clothing started with stuff that he’s outgrown.
Yesterday evening was the first time I fed him. Siobhan pumped off some breastmilk for him and I finally held him while he fed. It was a wonderful feeling. Tonight we tried him with Formula for the first time. He usually eats around 9pm and then again at 3 am (his longest span throughout the day) so we are trying him on formula for the 9 pm feedings. Hopefully his little system deals with it ok.
We also took him on our first road trip on Friday. We had to go to Grand Falls to get his pictures and our (first) family portrait done. He was a great traveller. He joined us at Subway for his first dining out experience (Scallop and Bacon sub… not bad, but not something I would have again). We then sat at the McDonald’s parking lot enjoying milkshakes while he was feeding. We definatley need more space when travelling with him. The truck would never cut it for a weekend trip unless the weather was nice and we could use the box (or the camper is in tow).
I must run now, I can hear him snoring on the monitor and I feel like joining him. Good night all! Hope you enjoy the pics!!

P.S. New pics can be found in the usual spot.
The little guy sleeps pretty good for a three week old (today!), but it’s still hard to get up in the mornings to go to work after being up with Siobhan during the night a couple of times.
I have put some more pictures in the Gallery that were taken during the babyshower as well as a bunch taken during the past week.
We had him outside with us for a few hours over the weekend. The weather has been excellent and we are glad he is getting used to being outside. We can’t wait until the nights warm up and we can try camping with him (probably in the yard first so we can escape to the house if the camper is not suitable for him).
Gotta run now,
Rene
Our little guy lost his belly button thingy yesterday evening. That was a bit of a relief as it was rubbing on his belly and made a little sore spot. Nothing got infected though as we were using Polysporin on the spot to help keep it clean.
It’s been an interesting time so far. Nicholas sleeps a lot. He wakes up two to four times every night for feedings and so far his Mom is doing a wonderful job of looking out for his needs and I am trying my best to juggle work, sleep and diaper changes.
I put some more pictures in the gallery this morning. It’s funny how many people are asking me for more pictures… even when they come to visit us and have seen and bathed the little guy. Hopefully I can satisfy their demands… there’s definately no lack of pictures of him.
Gotta run now, I wish I was off of work with Siobhan and Nicholas, but we have to pay the bills somehow!
