It’s been a while, so here’s a quick update…
-Gwen and Darren had their car ran into by someone a few weeks after they flipped their truck.
-We had a great Christmas!
-Nicholas loved his toys and played with them as well as the boxes.
-I got some great new toys, a pocket bike, and a Nintendo DS.
-I ended up having to get a DS (Pink of course) for Siobhan along with Animal Crossing.
-I also bought a M3 DS Simply and can chat using MSN on my DS.
-It’s cold outside, -18 the past two mornings, still very little snow though.
-I dented and tore the paint off our truck.
-Danny beat his truck up a little as well.
-Nicholas seems to finally be teething again after two months.
-I have the Snowbear Plow on the Dodge now.
-Our CR-V is getting louder everyday.
-Nicholas had his first sleepover without his parents at Aunt Gwen’s.
-TMX (Tickle Me Elmo Extreme) stopped working.
-Did I mention that it’s really cold?

This is the last time that I let Danny borrow my truck!

It’s bad enough he can’t drive his own, but when he slides off the road in my Dodge Ram… well that’s another issue all together!

No damage or anything, just had to back into the ditch to get the front to slide down the hill. Once the truck was back on the road we never had a problem getting up the hill the second try.

The long series of events leading up to the discovery of James Kim’s body has finally ended. James Kim and his family went on a weekend trip and ended up getting stranded on some country roads in Oregon. After seven days of waiting, and hoping to be rescued James took matters into his own hands and decided to go looking for help for his family. He left his wife and two daughters (four years, and seven months) with the car and headed out on foot. Two days later his wife and daughters were found, alive and well. James was finally found a number of days later, just a half mile or so from where his family waited.

This story really hits home with me as my son is seven months old. I can’t imagine what must have gone through the parents minds as they melted snow for water and ate berries, while Kati breast-fed both children to keep them alive and healthy. I have read some stories on how people say he should have just stayed with his family and car and I can understand what must have been going through his head. After seven days of hoping to be rescued, looking at your wife and two little girls suffering in the cold, burning the tires off of your car to stay warm at night I would want to do something myself. Too bad things didn’t work out for James. I truly feel for the family and I wish them all the best. I know he loved his family and wanted to do what was the right thing. When he used to do segments on TechTV with digital cameras he always had pictures of his wife and daughter (before his second little girl was born) to show off.

I wish the best for the family. I also know of a quiet little place here in Newfoundland where the press won’t be likely to find you if you need to get away from everything.

Here’s our pumpkins! Me and Siobhan spent an hour or so the other night carving them. We then lined the openings with parchment paper and stuck in a coil of red led rope lights that we have for christmas. Looks really nice and no flame to worry about!

I had a phone call this past weekend while we were doing our Christmas shopping in St. John’s. My sister Gwen called us to tell us some news. The night before, Gwen, Darren and their two children were in an accident. They hit water and hydroplaned across the Trans Canada Highway, near Norris Arm. Darren almost managed to recover when they hit the dirt shoulder and the truck hooked in and stared rolling. They figure they rolled three times. Gwen can remember the first time she saw the ground through her window, then the next time the window broke. The third time the mirror smashed off. The truck stopped, in the ditch, on all four wheels. Gwen checked to see if everyone was all right and her son’s first comment was, “Hey, what happened to my movie?”

Everyone was fine. They all walked away from the crash with minor bumps and scratches. It makes me sick to think of what could have happened, and how lucky they were. They are out a truck, but they are all fine… and Darren’s excited about getting a new truck now! Too bad he can’t wait until the New Tundra is out in 2007. Judging by how their truck survived and how they all came out of this I am seriously thinking about the new Toyota Tundra for us when our lease is up!
