Nicholas

Our little man is growing like a weed. He’s rolling all over the place and even lifts his butt like he’s trying to crawl. Not quite sitting on his own yet, but he trys… and then lands on his face after a few seconds.

We are trying to get him to hold his bottle on his own, which he is having a bit of success with. He laughs at us and as far as I am concerned he is saying Mom, though I think Mom is still in disbelief.

He also seems to be teething and we found out he has a bladder infection. It’s a minor infection and we only caught it by chance, but it is there and he is on medication for it. The teething has been rough on him, he crys, and is always sticking his toys and fingers in his mouth… sometime a little too deep and he ends up losing some of his meals. To add to that problem the medication he is on causes loss of appetite and nausea and vomiting. We have to work a little harder to get his milk into him and we’ve had to stop feeding him solids (on our Doctor’s advice). He’s only really lost his lunch once. I actually had to take his high chair apart and bring it outside to hose it down!

When we had the visit to the pediatrition he suggested a water sample whenever we got a chance. How do you get a water sample from a five-month old? You stick a little sterile baggie on him that has a hole in it surrounded by tape (available at your local clinic). Put on the diaper and hope for the best. After three samples we confirmed a small water infection so the doctor prescribed him some Novotrimel. Now we have ten days to deal with the poor little guy not wanting food.

The teething issue is another thing altogether. He slept good last night, but the two nights before he was congested and very sooky. He slept for an hour or two at most before we had to go and calm him down. It was hard. A pacifier usually helps him relax, but when he can’t breathe through his nose a pacifier really doesn’t help things. We had to use a suction thing a few times that night to help clear him out… and he really doesn’t like that device. We had him looked over yesterday and he doesn’t seem to have a cold or flu. Teething can bring all sorts of symptoms with it and poor little Nicholas is not enjoying it.

On the bright side, during the times when he is unhappy, a smile can be brought to his face at almost any time. Gotta love that!

I also have a new found respect for single parents. Siobhan and I have each other at all times, but those people who are raising kids alone really have their work cut out for them! I can’t imagine it!

Later!

P.S. Nicholas really doesn’t like carrots!

More Nicholas

Nicholas is growing up quickly. It’s amazing the changes that can take place so quickly in a little boy. He has gotten over the rough evenings. He talks to himself in his crib instead of waking up and crying for attention. He laughs and smiles whenever he sees me and Siobhan. He started rolling around and can be found almost anywhere in his crib when we check on him. He eats his cereal and drinks his milk. He found his first Geocache with me the other day. He’s turning into a real little boy, really fast!

I have added more pictures in the Gallery.

I hope you enjoy the pics! We really enjoy taking them! 🙂

Time to eat!

Looks like our little man is growing up! After a quick visit to a pediatrician last week we decided to start Nicholas on cereal sooner then we planned.

Nicholas had been having a lot of rough evenings every since he was born. He finally stopped this about two weeks ago… the day after I received a $25 bottle of super gripe water from the states. He had the new gripe water one evening and he hasn’t had a rough evening like he used to since. Either it worked wonders, it scared him, or he just finally grew out of it. My vote is on number three, but it makes you wonder!

We brought him to see a pediatrician and he told us that Nicholas seemed to be a happy, healthy, baby boy. We asked him about his previous evening issues and he told us exectly what we felt it was. The little guys system was slowing down in the evenings and causing him gas pains and he had a hard time dealing with it… this is something they usually grow out of by three months or so. It took Nicholas a little over four months.

When we discussed cereal with him he asked us why Nicholas was not on it already. We told him that everyone is now recommending waiting until six months old. He would have nothing to do with that and told us we could give him cereal up to four times daily.

Nichlas had his first cereal on Monday evening. He seemed to like it, but he also seemed to think it was his bottle at first and started sucking on the spoon. He got used to the spoon really quick though and now he has cereal two times a day. So far so good!

I have two videos to share. The first one is Nicholas’ first feeding on the evening of Sept. 11th, 2006 and the second video is his feeding the next morning.

Enjoy!

Another day, another baby!

It seems that a lot of my generation are having babies these days. I got an email from an old friend the other day. Susanne Kearley (now Doyle) and her Husband had a little girl on August 16th.

I also received an email from another friend of mine. Kerri Kendell (now Lewis) and her Husband had their little girl on August 27th. (I’m guessing the 27th based on the date stored in the pictures I was sent, please correct me if I am wrong!)

I also forgot to mention another birth. Craig (Siobhan’s neighbour from Ramea) and Nancy also had a little girl recently!

Congratulations to you all! I hope you enjoy your time with your little ones as much as I do with Nicholas!

Nicholas and Brayden cruising

Here’s a little video showing Nicholas at 4 months cruising around with his Cousin Brayden who is 2 years and 3 months old.

Brayden had his Hummer H2 Power Wheels for a while now and wouldn’t drive it. Once he discovered that Nicholas could get in with him he started driving all around and he wanted Nicholas to be in the passenger seat with him.

Some pictures can be found in the Gallery.

First Frost!

I hope I don’t jinx the winter this year by showing off the first frost. Last year, the first time we saw frost was September 29th. This year, August 28th! I refuse to get excited about winter though. Last years frost was earlier then most and we never had much of a winter at all!

Here’s another Nicholas Video

This one’s from two months ago. Nicholas was only two months old. We were driving to St. John’s and the poor little guy couldn’t decide what kind of mood he was in.

This one is well worth watching!

Some more pics of our little guy!

Nicholas is four months old today. He’s getting taller and bigger all the time.
He rolled over for the first time a few days ago and he has been sleeping through the night for a couple of weeks.

He had his four month needles yesterday and he didn’t like it very much, but he seems to have recovered well and his legs don’t seem to be bothering him.

It’s amazing how much he’s learning. He’s picking things up, playing and examining everything. When he wakes in the morning he can often be found examining his hands and talking loudly. When he sees someone first thing in the morning it doesn’t take much to get a big smile and maybe even a laugh out of him.

Dirty diapers aren’t so bad. He usually one has more really dirty diaper per day. It smells like crap (literally) but it isn’t too bad.

Unfortunately he des have his moments when he gets upset. A lot of evenings we can be found trying to comfort him while he screams, burps, farts and screams some more. Gas seems to be his number one enemy. Loud sounds often scare him as well as new people getting close to his face.

I have posted some more pics in the Gallery. You can find them here.
